At the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Qualcomm Technologies, announced their collaboration with a number of companies to enhance the digital experience across sectors. As part of its latest collaboration with Microsoft, Qualcomm is going to expand and accelerate the adoption of augmented reality (AR) in both the consumer and enterprise sector.

Under a new partnership with Volvo Cars, Qualcomm is going to enhance infotainment systems in upcoming fully electric cars. It will be incorporated with Volvo and Polestar brands with 3rd Generation Snapdragon Cockpit platforms. Renault Group will work with Qualcomm Technologies to leverage the  Snapdragon Digital Chassis to equip upcoming Renault vehicles with the latest connected and intelligent solutions for its next-generation vehicles.

Pushing ahead with the Metaverse

Qualcomm Technologies is working with Microsoft across several initiatives to drive the Metaverse ecosystem, including developing custom AR chips to enable a new wave of power-efficient, lightweight AR glasses to deliver rich and immersive experiences, and plans to integrate a software like Microsoft Mesh and Snapdragon Spaces XR Developer Platform.

Hugo Swart, vice president, and general manager of XR, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. stated “Qualcomm Technologies’ core XR strategy has always been delivering the most cutting-edge technology, purpose-built XR chipsets and enabling the ecosystem with our software platforms and hardware reference designs. We are thrilled to work with Microsoft to help expand and scale the adoption of AR hardware and software across the entire industry.”

Rubén Caballero, corporate vice president of Mixed Reality, Microsoft stated “With services like Microsoft Mesh, we are committed to delivering the safest and most comprehensive set of capabilities to power metaverses that blend the physical and digital worlds, ultimately delivering a shared sense of presence across devices. We look forward to working with Qualcomm Technologies to help the entire ecosystem unlock the promise of the metaverse.”

Developing next-gen automotive cockpits

Volvo Car Group and Qualcomm Technologies have optimized and aligned the software development pipeline to enable a product with improved performance: 2.5 times faster overall system speed, 5 to 10 times faster graphics rendering, and 2.5 times faster audio digital signal processing. With Google’s Android Automotive Operating System (AAOS), the Polestar 3 and Volvo Cars’ upcoming fully electric SUV will feature: hands-free help from Google Assistant and precise navigation with Google Maps, as well as a broad ecosystem of automotive applications and services on Google Play.  Future improvements will be rolled out as over-the-air updates.

As a key component of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis – a comprehensive set of cloud-connected platforms that individually or collectively digitize the numerous systems inside any automobile – the Snapdragon Digital Cockpit Platforms are designed to help carmakers utilize advanced displays, audio, computing, and connectivity to redefine infotainment. Open and scalable, these technologies are engineered for automakers to customize the in-car experience to the needs of customers and stay connected to customers after purchase to provide updates and additional features on demand.

“Volvo Cars is a company that believes in working with technology leaders like Qualcomm Technologies and Google to provide the best experience to our customers,” said Henrik Green, chief product officer, Volvo Cars. “With Qualcomm’s technology in our forthcoming fully electric SUV, we are confident our infotainment system will reach the next level.”

“Our technology development with Volvo Cars spotlights the transformative potential of our Snapdragon automotive solutions featured in the Snapdragon Digital Chassis,” said Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and GM, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Utilizing our latest hardware and software innovations to multiply the speeds of in-car computing, graphics generation, and audio processing over prior alternatives, the Snapdragon Cockpit Platforms represents the cutting edge of automotive technology. We are honored to work with Volvo Cars to enable the next-generation experiences we are building together.”

“Our goal is to support Volvo Cars by integrating cutting-edge, scalable, and upgradable technology that provides premium experiences today and into the future for their customers,” said Enrico Salvatori, senior vice president and president of Europe/MEA, Qualcomm Europe, Inc.

Delivering connected and intelligent experiences

Renault Group is looking to incorporate Qualcomm’s open and scalable cloud-connected platforms that are designed for automotive telematics and connectivity, digital cockpit, as well as driver assistance, and utilize a unified architecture to deliver enhanced safety and immersive digital experiences that are updateable throughout the lifetime of vehicles.

Thierry Cammal, alliance global vice president software factory, Renault Group. “As we maintain our position as a leading global automaker, we look to Qualcomm Technologies’ vision and innovation with 5G, the digital cockpit, and the new Snapdragon Ride platforms enabled with Arriver Computer Vision stack that are part of the Snapdragon Digital Chassis to help us accelerate the pace of innovation to help us meet the evolving demands from our customers.”

Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and GM, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “With a revolutionary platform like the Snapdragon Digital Chassis, we will help advance Renault Group’s goals of delivering the most immersive and safe experiences for their customers. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Renault Group to develop automotive solutions as we advance toward the digital age of the automotive industry.”

As per reports, the new technology collaboration could enhance in-vehicle experiences for Renault’s new Mégane E-TECH Electric vehicle with the 3rd Generation Snapdragon® Cockpit Platforms.
