By sending a satellite into space in the first week of 2023, Kuwait has ushered in a new era to its space industry. The satellite “KuwaitSat-1” was sent to space via the SpaceX Falcon 9 from the US State of Florida’s Cape Carnival. Kuwait University initiated this breakthrough attempt of sending a satellite to space. The project was funded by the Kuwait Foundation for the Advancement of Sciences.
The successful launch is the result of pain-staking work done over the last three years by various Kuwait professionals and students for their country. Notable among the contributors are Al-Damkhi (earth science & environmental specialist), project director Dr Hala Al-Jassar, Abdullah Al-Khatem, Ms Sarah Iskandar, Anfal Al-Lengawi, and mechanical engineers (Dana Al-Otaibi & Maha Al-Kharji).
The launch is part of the bigger objective to attain the goals of Kuwait 2035 Vision and to establish a strong scientific presence in the country.
