The Grand Egyptian Museum hosted the official launch of the all-new BMW 7 Series and the first-ever BMW i7, in a gala event held on March 7, 2023 and attended by senior officials from BMW AG and Global Auto Group – BMW official importer in Egypt – as well as industry insiders, celebrities, and VIP guests.
With a design built around a forward-looking vision that preserves the past while embracing the future, the Grand Egyptian Museum was the perfect backdrop for the launch of the all-new BMW 7 Series and the first-ever BMW i7—both models embody the same spirit of modernity, innovation, and forward-thinking of the largest archaeological museum in the world.
The BMW 7 Series was first launched in 1977 as the German brand’s flagship luxury sedan, and it has been at the top of its executive luxury segment ever since. The all-new seventh-generation 7-Series was introduced in mid-2022, along with its first-ever electric variant—the BMW i7.
The latest iteration of the full-size luxury sedan has arrived with a new bold look that reflects the concept of “Forwardism”—the joy of seeing and feeling the future before it has been created— with industry-leading technology and a plethora of cutting-edge features aiming at taking luxury and technology to a whole new level. The all-new BMW 7-Series is available in Egypt in two trim levels: the 740i and 760i xDrive (with M Sport Package), while the BMW i7 is only available in the xDrive60 Pure Excellence variant.
Looking bolder than ever, the all-new BMW 7 Series and i7 get a larger, taller, and illuminated kidney grille, flanked by a tiny set of crystal headlamps known as “Iconic Glow”—the headlights developed in partnership with “Swarovski” give the luxury sedan an unmistakable look, whether at a standstill or while driving. Other key design highlights include automatically opening and closing doors, 19-, 20-, or 21-inch wheels, a Sky Lounge panoramic sunroof with LED light threads, automatic tailgate operation, and LED tail lights. The M Sport Package adds a kidney grille in high-gloss black, M Sport brakes with black or blue calipers, and a small M rear spoiler, among other elements. In terms of dimensions, the 2023 7-Series and i7 are 5,391 mm long, 1,950 mm wide, and 1,544 mm tall, along with a 3,215 mm long wheelbase.
Aside from the bold exterior styling, the all-new 7 Series and i7 received a proper overhaul on the inside and now include a 14.9-inch touchscreen with iDrive 8 software and 5G connectivity as well as an Interaction Bar—a touchscreen strip that houses virtual buttons for many of the car’s features and provides ambient lighting. Elsewhere, there are high-quality and refined materials, including Merino leather seats, glass surfaces, and open-pored fine-wood trims.
Backseat passengers can enjoy a number of cutting-edge entertainment solutions, including a 31-inch Theater Screen display that deploys from the roof with 8K resolution, plus 5G connectivity, making the new 7-Series the perfect movie-watching vehicle. All of the functions are directly controlled on the multi-touch display or via the 5.5-inch Touch Command displays in the doors. They can also rest comfortably in the Executive Lounge Seating, as the seats recline 42.5 degrees behind the front seats, while enjoying the Bowers and Wilkins Surround Sound system with additional speakers in the head restraints.
The seventh-generation 7 Series and BMW i7 are also equipped with an assortment of driver-assistance systems and safety features, including the BMW Driver Assistance Professional system that is available in Egypt for the first time. This state-of-the-art safety feature maintains the desired speed and distance from the vehicle in front, while steering interventions keep the 7 Series on track.
Under the hood of the BMW 740i lies a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six petrol engine with 48-volt mild-hybrid technology that produces 381 hp and 520 Nm of torque. Mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels, the six-cylinder mill enables the full-size luxury sedan to go from zero to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. Powering the BMW 760i xDrive is a 4.4-liter turbocharged eight-cylinder engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that pumps out 544 hp and 750 Nm of torque. Hooked up to an eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the four wheels, the eight-cylinder unit enables the flagship sedan to go from zero to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds.
The BMW i7 xDrive60 features two electric motors that produce 544 hp and 745 Nm of torque. The fully-electric model sports a 101.7 kWh battery with an estimated range of 625 km. The all-wheel-drive electric variant is able to sprint from zero to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds.
Commenting on the occasion, Fahad Alghanim, Chairman of Global Auto Group, said: “Today, we are honored to be in the Grand Egyptian Museum—the pride of Egypt and the world, which hosts the world’s most important ancient Egyptian masterpieces—to launch the all-new BMW 7 Series and the first-ever BMW i7 in Egypt for the first time.
