Oliver Wyman, a global management consulting firm and a business of Marsh McLennan has appointed Adel Alfalasi as its new Head of the UAE. In the role, Alfalasi will oversee the management consultancy’s business in the United Arab Emirates.

Alfalasi has more than two decades of experience holding senior positions across the UAE’s private and public sector, having worked as an Executive Director in the UAE Prime Minister’s Office prior to moving to management consulting.

Alfalasi succeeds Anshu Vats in the role. After more than 30 years in the industry, Vats will take on a key role as senior advisor to the firm on global topics, and will continue to be an important part of Oliver Wyman in India, the Middle East and Africa.

On the appointment, Pedro Oliveira, Managing Partner – IMEA, Oliver Wyman said: “Adel’s track record in leading large transformations, his strong expertise in the public sector, his insights into the complex universe of policymaking, and his deep knowledge of the UAE landscape equip him with a unique perspective that will help us deliver strong impact for clients across the Emirates. We have every confidence in his ability to oversee the business in the UAE, an incredibly important market to us.”

Of his new role, Alfalasi said: “What I love about my work is that we enact positive change while holding true to our values, which include striving for breakthroughs. That’s really the spirit of the UAE too. It’s an honor to be able to contribute to the economic growth of my country – and by extension its social growth – via the work I do.”

Alfalasi works in Oliver Wyman’s Public Sector practice and is an expert on topics such as large-scale transformations and public sector excellence. He is also currently writing a book on The New Silk Road with Hong Kong-based Oliver Wyman partner Ben Simpfendorfer. The pair are exploring the new dynamics at play across the Middle East and Asia – which accounts for 45% of the global economy – and how the commercial story is no longer one about a simple exchange of goods, but is now also about capital, talent, and technology.

Alfalasi also leads Oliver Wyman’s Consultant Development Programme in the UAE, a 6-12 month programme that helps foster future talent by giving Emirati graduates hands-on consulting experience to help kick-start their careers. He also serves on the board of Injaz, a non-profit organization that works to boost entrepreneurship across the Arab world.
