Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba)’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, highlighted the Company’s keenness on strengthening ties with key aluminium producers in the Arab World during a meeting with the Egyptian Minister of Public Enterprises Sector, His Excellency Dr. Eng. Mahmood Kamal Esmat, that was held on 24 May 2023 in Cairo, Egypt.

The meeting attended by Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Ali Al Baqali, the Managing Director of the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company Eng. Mohammed Al Saadawy and the Chief Executive Officer of Egyptalum Egypt’s largest aluminium producer, Dr. Mahmoud Agour aimed to enhance mutual cooperation and develop potential opportunities for investment in the aluminum industry.

Alba’s Chairman of the Board of Directors, Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa, praised the investor sentiment climate in Egypt and welcomed the efforts which will be made on studying the feasibility of a potential partnership between Alba and the Metallurgical Industries Holding Company especially with the production of Bauxite as a major raw material.

In addition, the Egyptian Minister of Public Enterprises Sector His Excellency Dr. Eng. Mahmood Kamal Esmat commended the deep-rooted bilateral relations between Egypt and the Kingdom of Bahrain and emphasised on the intent to have further integration and broader economic partnerships between both countries. He also highlighted the Ministry’s efforts to empower the private sector and increase its contribution to the national economy through boosting public-private partnerships in Egypt as well as creating foreign direct investment opportunities especially with the Arab countries.

Alba Power Station 5 (PS5) Block 4 is a Combined Cycle Power Plant that is an expansion of the existing PS5.

PS5 Block 4 Project is the addition of a fourth Block of similar 1:1:1 configuration with J-class gas turbine technology and with minimum nominal ISO rating of a 680.9 MW and includes tie into the existing 220kV Substation. The efficiency of this combined cycle power plant is much higher than the combined cycle power plants of PS3 and PS4. On completion of PS5 Block 4 Expansion Project, the nameplate capacity of PS5 will increase from 1,800 MW to 2,481 MW.

Mitsubishi Power & SEPCOIII consortium will be responsible to design, engineer, procure, construct and commission Block 4. PS5 Block 4 commercial operations are expected to begin in Q4 2024.
