Emirates Global Aluminium has officially inaugurated the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling facility at Al Taweelah. This landmark project accelerates the nation’s shift toward a low-carbon economy. It also establishes EGA as a dominant force in global green metallurgy. The facility marks a massive step forward for sustainable industrial manufacturing.
The inauguration was attended by Her Excellency Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Her Excellency Dr. Shaikha Salem Al Dhaheri, Secretary General of the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), EGA’s Chairman Homaid Al Shimmari, EGA’s Vice Chairman His Excellency Saeed Al Tayer, and members of EGA’s Board and senior management team.
Key Milestones at a Glance
- Production Capacity: 185,000 tonnes of recycled aluminium per year.
- Safety Record: 4 million hours of construction completed with zero lost-time injuries.
- Product Line: Premium low-carbon billets and T-bars marketed under the RevivAL brand.
Powering the UAE Circular Economy Policy

The new facility directly supports the UAE’s aggressive Circular Economy Policy. Historically, local industries exported most domestic aluminium scrap for processing abroad. This facility localizes the value chain entirely. Consequently, EGA has become the largest consumer of aluminium scrap across the Emirates.
Slashing Industrial Carbon Footprints Locally
Recycling aluminium requires up to 95% less energy than producing new primary metal from raw ore. This massive efficiency drastically cuts greenhouse gas emissions. EGA also blends this recycled metal with solar and nuclear-powered primary aluminium. These premium blends are marketed globally as CelestiAL-R and MinimAL-R.
Her Excellency Dr Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, said: “Recycling is the cornerstone of the UAE’s Circular Economy Policy which aims to transform the nation into a global hub for green development by shifting from linear to circular production and consumption, enhancing resource efficiency, and minimising waste. Aluminium represents one of our greatest opportunities to drive this transition from linear to circular model of production. It is infinitely recyclable, protecting our ecosystems while fuelling a sustainable, low-carbon economy. Recycling aluminium waste requires up to 95 per cent less energy compared to producing new primary aluminium from raw ore, saving significant energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
She further added “Emirates Global Aluminium has been a pioneer of our nation’s industry for decades, and today, they are leading the charge as our national champion in aluminium recycling. I congratulate EGA on the strategic growth of its recycling business both here in the UAE and globally, proving that industrial leadership and climate action go hand in hand.”
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Global Aluminium, said: “The inauguration of Al Taweelah recycling plant is a major milestone in EGA’s development of a global aluminium recycling business. This new plant turns aluminium waste generated in the UAE and elsewhere into new aluminium that makes modern life possible around the world. With this project, we have added a new industrial activity to EGA’s operations in the UAE, in line with Make it in the Emirates and the UAE’s Operation 300bn industrial growth strategy.”
Engineering an Advanced Industrial Landmark
Building this futuristic hub required incredible engineering precision. Workers poured over 26,300 cubic metres of concrete during construction. The project also utilized more than 4,600 metric tonnes of structural steel. This massive infrastructure investment aligns with the UAE’s Operation 300bn industrial growth strategy.
Scaling Up Globally From Abu Dhabi
The Al Taweelah site started producing its first recycled aluminium earlier this year. Full commercial ramp-up will take up to six months based on local scrap availability. Meanwhile, EGA continues to aggressively expand its recycling footprint across Europe and the United States.
The Future of Green Metallurgy
EGA’s total recycling capacity has now reached more than 400,000 tonnes per year globally. This includes active operations in Germany and Minnesota. An additional 200,000 tonnes of capacity is currently under development worldwide. This rapid expansion proves that industrial leadership and climate action successfully go hand in hand.
