The Labour Fund “Tamkeen” recently renewed its cooperation agreement with the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society (BDSS) to train and employ tens of students with down syndrome over the next two years and to help place them in specialized positions in cooperation with several private sector enterprises.

This partnership was first launched in 2018 to ensure the inclusion of all members of society within Tamkeen’s programs and initiatives, helping them become active participants in Bahrain’s development journey. To date, the Society was able to successfully train and employ around 25 students, reflecting positively on the inclusion of individuals in the labor market.

On this occasion, Her Excellency Ms. Maha Mofeez, Chief Executive of the Labour Fund “Tamkeen” emphasized Tamkeen’s role in supporting all segments of society, saying: “At Tamkeen, we ensure establishing qualitative strategic partnerships which contribute to the provision of the necessary upskilling opportunities for Bahraini talent.”

She continued: “We are fully committed to our mission of making Bahrainis the first choice for employment in the private sector, and to achieve this mandate we provide specialized training opportunities that help enhance the skills of our local talent. We will continue our efforts to integrate individuals with Down Syndrome in specialized jobs within the labor market, helping to facilitate their participation in the overall development process.”

In addition, Mr. Adel Abdulla Fakhro, Chairman of the Bahrain Down Syndrome Society expressed his gratitude for the renewal of this cooperation, which will continue to support people with special needs and increase their employment opportunities within the labor market. He stated that this project is the first of its kind in the Arab region, which during previous years, contributed to qualifying and employing a group of students, reflecting positively on their performance and interaction with all members of society according to their abilities and potential.

Industry sources added that This initiative has been redesigned in line with recent labor market requirements to ensure the efficiency of the support provided in promoting the integration of various members of Bahraini society and facilitating their first-time inclusion in the labor market. Additionally, it aims to boost the career progression opportunities of the participants of the first edition of the program.

Industry sources further confirmed that This program was developed with support from several specialized professionals in the Society, who are also ensuring the availability of supervisors who will be with the students while they work.

Several organizations have already recruited graduates of this program, including the National Bank of Bahrain, Al Salam Bank, Carrefour, McDonald’s, and Royal Bahrain Hospital, among others, with additional companies expected to be added in the near future.
