SABIC, a global leader in diversified chemicals, announced recently the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with CEER, Saudi Arabia’s first electric vehicle (EV) brand and original technology equipment, to explore opportunities for collaboration in applying SABIC’s advanced materials and innovative solutions in the design, development, and manufacture of CEER’s electric vehicles. The MoU also aims to evaluate mutually beneficial commercial opportunities and define the terms of potential collaboration.

The signing ceremony at SABIC’s headquarters in Riyadh was attended by Dr. Faisal M. Alfaqeer, SABIC CEO and Executive Board Member, and Mr. James DeLuca, CEER CEO.

The MoU provides a framework for developing and innovating solutions and products through evaluating the possible use of SABIC’s advanced materials in some CEER’s vehicle applications and jointly developing material and processing solutions that fulfill industry needs. It also aims to share knowledge and experience on sustainability and technology to support CEER objectives in products development, and to explore potential strategic sourcing opportunities allowing building a local supply chain with global standards for the emerging local EV sector, as well as identify and pursue additional areas of mutually agreed collaboration.

Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Al-Faqeer said, “The memorandum represents a strategic collaboration which leverages SABIC’s global expertise in advanced material solutions for the electric vehicle industry. Through this partnership, we aim to accelerate innovation, enhance local content and build an integrated national supply chain that enhances global competitiveness. This collaboration also reflects our shared commitment to contribute to Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Industrial Strategy, empowering national talent, and strengthening Saudi Arabia’s position as a regional hub for future industries and technologies.”

CEER CEO, Mr. James DeLuca said, “This strategic collaboration with SABIC marks a significant step in CEER’s journey toward designing, engineering and manufacturing a world-class electric vehicle right here in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In order to develop next-generation electric vehicles with leading safety and efficiency performance, we are partnering with global prominent companies that share our commitment to innovation. By integrating SABIC’s materials and deep technical expertise into our vehicles, we are building a robust and reliable local supply chain while enhancing CEER’s rule as a key player in the Kingdom’s transformation into sustainable advanced hub for mobility and technology, in alignment with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030.”

SABIC’s materials and solutions are contributing to the sustainable growth of the global automotive industry by enabling manufacturers to advance electric vehicle development and accelerate the transition to a sustainable, carbon-neutral future amid the industry’s rapid transformation.

SABIC has been one of the world’s leading producers of advanced materials and innovative solutions used in electric vehicle manufacturing for decades. In 2022, CEER and the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program announced contributing to the efforts of accelerating the global transition to electrification by supporting the development of safe and scalable electric vehicles along with providing advanced thermoplastics, design expertise, and engineering capabilities. The initiative also focuses on enabling lightweight, cost-effective solutions that meet stringent safety and performance standards while helping reduce environmental impact.

CEER will continue leveraging these advanced technology innovations to accelerate the development of the Saudi automotive industry, contributing to the creation of a highly competitive integrated and sustainable local EV ecosystem.
