The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), recently, signed an agreement with the government of Burkina Faso to implement a project for women’s empowerment and childcare in refuge and displacement places. The signing came at the conclusion of the field visit by the joint delegation of the General Secretariat, the Islamic Solidarity Fund and the OIC Mission in Niger, which took place from 19 to 24/3/2023, to refugees and displaced people in Burkina Faso, as a follow-up to the implementation of the relevant project approved by the 8th Ministerial Conference for Women, held in July 2021 in Cairo.
The agreement was signed on behalf of the General Secretariat, by Dr. Amina Al-Hajri, Director General of Cultural, Social and Family Affairs, and on behalf of the government of Burkina Faso, by Mr. Karamoko Jean-Marie Traoré, Minister Delegate for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, in charge of regional cooperation.
The joint delegation met H.E Mrs. Olivia Rumba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabe Abroad, senior officials at the Ministry, and H.E. Mrs. Nandi Soumie Diallo, Minister of National Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation and Women and the Family, who welcomed the initiative of the General Secretariat in implementing this project and affirmed the readiness of their ministries and the competent authorities to cooperate with the General Secretariat to ensure success of the project.
Dr. Amina Al-Hajri indicated the keen interest of H.E. Mr. Hissein Brahim Taha, OIC Secretary-General to implement the said project. She also pointed out that the OIC and its relevant institutions were keen to provide all possible means of support in order to achieve security, stability and development in Burkina Faso and the Sahel countries in general.
