UL Opens new Fire Safety Lab at ICAD, Abu Dhabi

UL, the global safety science leader, today announced that it is expanding its existing facility in Abu Dhabi to now include a cables fire safety and performance laboratory. The expansion is taking place at UL's facility in the Industrial City of Abu Dhabi (ICAD).

The laboratory in Abu Dhabi will offer native manufacturers, brands and suppliers of electric and optical cables and busways, a fresh resource for testing the fire safety of their merchandize.

UL, the global safety science leader, recently proclaimed that they are all set to advance their existing base within the Abu Dhabi to empower in the cables fire safety and performance laboratory.

The expanded facility is situated within the Industrial City of Abu Dhabiโ€™s (ICADโ€™s) premises, empowering the manufacturers, brands as well as the suppliers for the electrical as well as optical cables as well as busways from via Middle East for accessing a native lab for fire safety. Statement from Sameer Abdul Salam, UL’s business head for the MEA Region: –

The ULโ€™s Business Head for the MEA territory, Sameer Abdul Salam stated, โ€œThe hazards associated with noncompliant cables present significant risks with respect to the nature and scale of a fire event. Our robust fire safety testing of cables, which is available at our new Abu Dhabi laboratory, brings trust and confidence that such safety issues have been assessed in the products manufacturers and companies are bringing to the marketplace. As the global safety science leader, UL looks forward to helping local purchasers, specifiers, installers and inspectors of telecommunication cables achieve increased speed to market and the ability to demonstrate their commitment to fire safety to their customers.โ€

He also stated out that, โ€œIn recent years, the Middle East has seen increased regulation around the fire safety of cables used in buildings to meet the civil defense requirements. At UL’s new Abu Dhabi laboratory, our fire safety experts will work with customers to help them meet these increased demands without sacrificing time or efficiency.โ€

Europe and Asia Presence and Standards regulated for operation

The fresh fire Safety Laboratory is all build for testing electric as well as optical cables, and busways as per the flame retardant and fire resistance properties.

ULโ€™s highly expert and knowledgeable Industry-powered experts, aid in empowerment of the facility with superior and swifter turnaround times with enhanced regulation enforcement.

The native presence in Abu Dhabi with global expertise will also in turn aid out in flexing out the logistical hurdles for their clients in Europe and Asia.

UL offers its clients advisory and testing services to help them meet and exceed fire safety requirements.

Research testing services for manufacturers can help customers design cables that comply to the necessary fire resistance/fire reactance standards.
