H.E. Ahmed Taleb Al Shamsi, CEO of Emirates Foundation, said: “We are proud and delighted that Abu Dhabi has been chosen to host this prestigious event alongside our esteemed partner at IAVE. We have always worked closely with the organization in our efforts to enable change through our various programs and projects in order to enhance community resilience and build a better society; for example, during the pandemic, Emirates Foundation volunteers have been steadfast in their commitment to social responsibility and public service, facing unprecedented challenges with dignity and a spirit of generosity. Our hosting of the Global Volunteering Leadership Summit will prepare the way for the next phase of a global dialogue on the future of volunteering, leading to the 26th IAVE World Volunteer Conference, also being hosted by the UAE capital, in 2022.”

Nichole Cirillo Executive Director, International Association for Volunteer Effort, said: “IAVE is the only international organization that exists to promote, strengthen and celebrate the development of volunteering on a global scale. We have been going through a time of change and uncertainty and the role of volunteering has not been unaffected. Recent IAVE research on the role of volunteering leadership organizations during COVID-19 gathered data from across 67 countries and highlighted the repercussions of disruption, identifying the many challenges faced by volunteering leadership organizations, the solutions they found and the innovations they developed to enable volunteers to make a huge positive contribution in responding to the impact of the pandemic. By organizing this influential summit with Emirates Foundation, we are sending a message to the world that together, we can support a future where volunteering lies at the heart of building a better world.”

The 3-day Leadership Summit will conclude with a gala dinner followed by an awards ceremony for volunteers at an ‘International Volunteer Day’ celebration event hosted at EXPO 2020 Dubai, where volunteers have been diligently working at the event, as stated by the report.

In accordance with the report the Global Volunteering Leadership Summit will be a precursor to the 26th IAVE World Volunteer Conference, the largest global gathering of volunteer experts and practitioners, which will be hosted in Abu Dhabi towards the end of 2022 having been postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Being held in the Middle East for the first time, the much- anticipated 50th Anniversary of the World Conference will attract thousands of participants representing stakeholders of the volunteer community from around the world, sharing and exploring how working together as agents of change they can provide the practical action that builds hope and resilience, improves lives and strengthens communities.
