Many people today are choosing to pursue a healthcare master’s degree because they know this degree will lead to a high-paying career. Jobs in this industry are growing, and workers receive many non-monetary benefits. They know they will have a stable job and be able to help people every day with their degree.

While getting a degree in healthcare will take time and resources, it is worth it when the degree is obtained. Individuals have opportunities for career advancement and higher salaries. In addition, they can make a significant impact on the industry. Why should a person pursue a master’s in healthcare? What are some healthcare master’s degrees a person should consider?

Choosing a Master’s in Healthcare

The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that healthcare occupations will grow faster than average. This organization expects 1.9 million healthcare openings yearly over the next 8 years. Financial benefits and job opportunities are only two reasons many people choose to pursue a master’s in healthcare. They also know doing so will allow them to take on specialized roles in areas that interest them.

Healthcare Master’s Degree Programs

Healthcare administration is one area where a person may wish to get a master’s degree. As reported by Indeed, healthcare administrators earn an average salary of $56,401 per year. Nursing administrators with master’s degrees earn approximately $135,799 per year, as reported by Salary.com.

Nurse practitioners remain in high demand. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports nurse practitioner roles will increase by 38% in the next 8 years. Nurse practitioners earn an average of $126,260 each year.

Many people overlook biotechnology when considering a healthcare career. PayScale reports that individuals with this degree typically earn $46,000 to $147,000 annually. This degree allows them to work as senior research associates, lab managers, or research scientists.

A master’s degree in pharmaceutical sciences teaches individuals how drugs work in the human body. Men and women with this degree earn anywhere from $55,000 to $115,000 annually. They may work as medicinal chemists, forensic scientists, or product developers, among other things.

Health informatics combines healthcare and data science. Individuals with this degree examine how healthcare data is stored, analyzed, and used. The American Health Information Management Association reports that individuals with this degree earned an average of $83,490 in 2019.

A public health degree is an excellent choice for many individuals with this master’s degree. They may specialize in epidemiology, global health, or another field. PayScale reports they earn between $43,000 and $91,000 annually.

Additional Benefits

Many people focus on salary when determining whether a healthcare master’s degree is worthwhile. They also need to consider non-monetary factors. A healthcare worker is practically guaranteed a job, as people always get sick. In addition, there is plenty of room for growth in this field.  America’s population is aging, and people need more health care. There is a shortage of healthcare workers, so individuals who obtain a master’s degree will have their pick of jobs.

Men and women enter healthcare to help others. They rarely do so for the money. However, obtaining a master’s degree will allow them to advance in their careers and increase their salary. They will also be able to provide a higher level of care so their patients benefit. Everyone wins in the situation.
